Defining GEO
Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of structuring your website, content and brand information so generative AI systems can interpret them accurately and reference them reliably. It is not a separate discipline bolted onto SEO — it is what happens when you take entity clarity and structured content seriously.
Why it matters now
A growing share of informational queries end inside an AI summary. If your business facts are inconsistent across the web, models have no reliable version of the truth to draw on. If your content buries the answer under four paragraphs of preamble, it is harder to extract.
What the work involves
In practice: organization and website schema, author and expertise pages, consistent brand facts across every owned profile, FAQ blocks that answer one question at a time, and content restructured so the key claim appears early and is supported afterwards.
What GEO cannot do
No agency controls model output. Nobody can promise you a citation in ChatGPT or Gemini. What you can influence is whether your information is machine-readable, consistent and worth referencing.
Where to start
Audit your entity data first — name, description, location, services and links across every profile you own. Inconsistency there undermines everything downstream.
